The Utan Kayu-Salihara International Literary Biennale is being held for the sixth time in 2011. This year we are taking the theme “Exciting Classics”, by celebrating once again the treasures of the past which have shaped our literature today, together with an invitation to develop literature in the future based on that wealth.
Besides presenting writers from Indonesia and abroad—some of whom reinterpret classic works—this festival is also presenting readings of modern classics and a series of performances of music compositions based on literary works.

A workshop program on reading literature open to teachers and the general public is in cooperation with the Jakarta Arts Council. This workshop will be held every weekend from mid-September until early October 2011. For further information and to register, access www.dkj.org.
Utan Kayu-Salihara International Literary Biennale also in cooperation with the Jakarta Arts Council will hold the Gerakan Indonesia Membaca Sastra (GIMS) or Indonesia Reads Literature Movement the final product of which will be audio books to be donated to Yayasan Mitra Netra.
For those interested in volunteering to read their works, please email ayu@salihara.org.
