Hasif Amini

Hasif took part in the AFS cross-cultural exchange program for one year in New Zealand (1988-89).  He continued his studies to the Department of Economics at the University of Indonesia, but dropped out, and became a freelance translator and editor.  Together with Margaret and Leon Agusta he translated and edited a collection of poems, The Poets’ Chant (1995) published in conjunction with the Istiqlal International Poetry Reading ’95. He edited a collection of short stories, Para Pembohong (1996) and translated selected fiction of Jorge Luis Borges titled, Labirin Impian (1999).  In 2007, the United States Department of Foreign Affairs invited Hasif to take part in the International Visitor Leadership Program in Arts and Literature, in which he met and exchanged ideas with a number of writers, editors, publishers, and institutions involved in literature and the arts in the United States.  Besides working as a literary curator at Komunitas Salihara, he is currently editor for the Indonesian domain of the Poetry International Web (www.poetryinternational.org) and guest editor for the poetry column in the Sunday edition of Kompas newspaper.
